Artist Statement

Seena Nikravan is a Los Angeles-based artist who focuses on painting abstract works on canvas, which express a raw, bold, and vibrant approach to life. The artist's works attempt to convey that which goes beyond the mind and the body, who we think we are and who we think others are in relation to us. These paintings appeal to the subconscious energy that lives within each of us and survives on connection to the entirety of existence.

Inspired by moments of introspection, when energized by nature, or when connecting with others, the artist's goal is to bring attention to those moments using textured surfaces, mixed media, broad brushstrokes and pallet knife work, along with strong scattered marks with acrylic pen. Ultimately, this is to show that beyond what we think we are and what we do in our daily lives, there exists an aliveness and richness of beauty, which far too often may escape us. At times described as messy these paintings portray the inherent chaos of life, the scattered nature of our own thoughts and ideas about ourselves and others, and what may feel like a lack of an ability to pinpoint exactly what we're here to do. In order to counteract this, Seena's paintings usually focus on a centralized structure where the viewer can experience a "cutting through” to the basic richness and consciousness of being human, which needs no explanation and simply exists. In this way, the artist brings forth in the viewer a desire to experience life in its fullest, most bold and raw form, embracing the unbridled, untamed, and blissful without evaluation or biased reaction.

An attorney by day, the artist also uses these paintings as a personal method of experiencing the ousting of the logical in place of the illogical and uncontrollable to achieve a balanced life, and invites the viewer to share in this experience.
